Left off the chart: Aug 2025 ($584.8 million at 573 kg). That month reports more than five times the usual value, and more than five times the usual value per kilogram. It may be a very high-value shipment or a reporting error, and we could not confirm which.

By year

Polypeptide hormones (HS 2937.19) from China. The latest year is partial; the months column says how many months are in.

China is a small part of this code by value. US imports from all countries came to $57.79 billion in 2025, most of it in a handful of very large months. The full series is in the CSV.

The wider hormone category

News reports often quote the whole of HS 2937, which adds insulin, steroid hormones and prostaglandins to the peptides. Here it is from China for comparison, as reported, including Aug 2025.

How we built this

The figures are US-reported imports in UN Comtrade, in US dollars and kilograms, by month. We pulled them through Comtrade's public API.

HS 2937.19 covers polypeptide, protein and glycoprotein hormones other than insulin and growth hormone. Peptides such as BPC-157 and TB-500 are not hormones in the strict sense. Importers often declare them here anyway, but some go under other codes or as lab reagents. Legitimate drug ingredients sit in this code too. So read it as an indicator of the trade, not a count of research peptides.

  • We flag any month whose value and value per kilogram are both more than five times the series median, and give yearly totals with and without those months.
  • Small parcels that came in duty-free under the $800 de minimis rule were largely missing from trade statistics. The US ended that exemption for goods from China in 2025, so some of the rise since then may be parcels that are now counted.
  • Countries revise trade data for months after release, so recent months can change.
  • Values are what importers declared, not retail prices.

For what the law says about buying these compounds, see peptides and the law.
