HGH 191AA 10 IU (about 3.33 mg) vial dosage
A 10 IU (about 3.33 mg) HGH 191AA vial mixed with 1 mL of bacteriostatic water gives 3.33 mg/mL, so 850 mcg is 25.5 units (0.26 mL) on a U-100 insulin syringe. At 850 mcg a dose, one vial holds 3 doses.

What HGH 191AA is
- Class:
- Recombinant 191-amino-acid human growth hormone - the same active molecule (somatropin) sold under FDA-approved brand names, here sold outside the prescription supply chain as an unverified research chemical
- Also called:
- Somatropin, rHGH, 191-amino acid recombinant human growth hormone, Human Growth Hormone (research-sold)
- Used for:
- Marketed to consumers for body recomposition, recovery and anti-aging in adults who do not have a diagnosed growth hormone deficiency. The identical molecule, somatropin, is FDA-approved by prescription for defined deficiency and wasting conditions - see the "Where approved somatropin fits" section on the main guide for that distinction.
- Human evidence:
- Limited human data. The parent molecule, somatropin, has strong trial evidence for its FDA-approved indications - growth hormone deficiency, Turner and Prader-Willi syndromes, and related conditions - reflected in approved drug labels (see externalRefs). None of that trial evidence was collected in healthy adults using it for the muscle, recovery or anti-aging claims this research-sold product is marketed for, and no clinical trial of a research-channel "HGH 191AA" vial itself exists. That gap - real drug, unstudied off-label consumer use, unverified vial - keeps this record at "limited" rather than higher.
- Half-life:
- Not verified for the research-sold product this session; approved-product labels report pharmacokinetics for the specific formulation studied, not for an unverified vial.
- US status:
- Research use only. The active molecule, somatropin, is FDA-approved by prescription in several branded products for defined conditions. A vial sold online as "HGH 191AA" or "research-grade HGH" is not one of those approved products: it reaches buyers outside the prescription and pharmacy supply chain, typically labelled research use only or not for human use, with no FDA review of its actual identity, purity or dose.

Supplies for one cycle with 10 IU vials
Counted for the low and high ends of the common protocol, mixing each vial with 1 mL of water. One new syringe per injection.
| Plan | Injections | 10 IU vials | Insulin syringes | Bacteriostatic water | Alcohol swabs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 333 mcg, 7×/week, 12 weeks | 84 | 9 | 84 | 9 mL (1 × 10 mL bottle) | 186 (2 × 100-pack) |
| 1.33 mg, 7×/week, 24 weeks | 168 | 68 | 168 | 68 mL (7 × 10 mL bottles) | 472 (5 × 100-pack) |
Arithmetic on the protocol and this vial size. Swabs: two per vial mixed (both stoppers) and two per injection (vial stopper and skin). An opened multi-dose vial has a use-by date (see storage), which on a slow schedule can matter more than the dose count. Plan your own numbers with the protocol builder.
How to mix a 10 IU (about 3.33 mg) HGH 191AA vial
For this vial: 1 mL of bacteriostatic water makes 3.33 mg/mL, so 850 mcg is 25.5 units (0.26 mL) on a U-100 insulin syringe. Pick a different volume from the units table if you want bigger or smaller draws; the number of doses stays the same.
- Wipe the rubber stoppers of both the peptide vial and the bacteriostatic water vial with an alcohol swab and let the alcohol dry. [3][4]
- With a new sterile needle and syringe, draw up the amount of bacteriostatic water you have chosen for the dilution. [3][4][5]
- Inject the water into the peptide vial by aiming the stream against the inside glass wall, which helps prevent foaming. [6]
- Swirl or roll the vial gently until the powder has fully dissolved; do not shake it. Do not inject the solution if it is cloudy or has particles in it. [3][4][6]
- Label the vial with the date and time it was mixed, the amount of water added and how long it can be used after mixing. [3]
- Store the mixed vial in the refrigerator at 2-8°C (36-46°F) and do not freeze it. [6]
Step by step with pictures: how to reconstitute peptides. About the water itself: bacteriostatic water.
Storing HGH 191AA vials
- Freeze-dried (lyophilized) peptide keeps far longer than peptide in solution; peptide suppliers advise storing the powder at -20°C away from bright light. [7]
- Protect peptide vials from heat and light. [7][8]
- Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles; a prescription peptide label also says not to freeze a vial once it has been mixed. [6][7]
- Once a multi-dose vial, such as bacteriostatic water, has been opened (needle-punctured), date it and discard it within 28 days unless its manufacturer states another date. [9][10]
More detail: peptide storage and shelf life.
Injecting safely
- Clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and let the skin dry completely before injecting. [11][12]
- Pinch up a fold of skin and fat (not muscle) and insert the needle at a 45- to 90-degree angle: 90 degrees where there is enough fatty tissue, 45 degrees where there is little. [11][12][13]
- Pulling back on the plunger (aspiration) is not necessary for a subcutaneous injection, because the chance of the needle being in a blood vessel is small. [11]
- Inject slowly, at roughly 10 seconds per mL. [11]
- Common sites are the belly, the thigh and the upper arm; rotate sites, keeping each injection at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) from the last. [6][11][12]
Hygiene and warning signs
- Use a new sterile needle and syringe for every injection and every time you enter a vial; never reuse them. [5][9][12]
- Never share needles, syringes or pens with anyone, even if the needle is changed; unsafe injection practices spread hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. [5][8][9]
- Put used needles and syringes in a sharps disposal container straight away (FDA-cleared if possible), never loose in the trash, recycling or toilet, and dispose of the container following your community's guidelines. [14][15]
- Contact a health care provider if the injection site shows signs of infection, such as redness, swelling, red streaks or a fever. [12]
Where to inject: subcutaneous injection sites.
How HGH 191AA works
- HGH 191AA is somatropin: a 191-amino-acid protein of about 22,000 daltons, made by recombinant DNA technology in E. coli, with an amino-acid sequence identical to growth hormone from the human pituitary gland. [16]
- Somatropin binds growth hormone receptors on target cells, which switches on production of growth-hormone-dependent proteins including IGF-1, IGF-binding protein 3 and acid-labile subunit. [16]
- Some of its effects are direct and some run through IGF-1. They include stimulating cartilage cells, raising glucose output from the liver, increasing protein synthesis and breaking down fat (lipolysis). [16]
- In 26 healthy people whose own growth hormone was suppressed, a single 4 mg dose raised mean IGF-1 from 190 to 276 ng/mL at about 24 hours. By 96 hours it was back to 196 ng/mL. [16]
What the HGH 191AA research found
Human evidence: limited human data. Each result says what was studied.
- Human studyIn a 1990 study of 21 healthy men aged 61-81 with low IGF-1, the 12 given growth hormone three times a week for six months gained 8.8% lean body mass, lost 14.4% fat mass and gained 1.6% lumbar spine bone density. The 9 untreated men showed no significant change. [17]
- Human studyA 2007 systematic review of randomised trials in healthy older adults (220 people given growth hormone, mean age 69) found fat mass fell by 2.1 kg and lean body mass rose by 2.1 kg, with no significant change in body weight or bone density. The authors concluded it cannot be recommended as an anti-ageing therapy. [18]
- Human studyA 2008 systematic review of randomised trials in fit young adults (303 people given growth hormone, mean age 27) found lean body mass rose by 2.1 kg, but strength and exercise capacity did not appear to improve. [19]
- Human studyA 2017 meta-analysis of 11 placebo-controlled studies (254 healthy young people) found growth hormone increased lean body mass and reduced fat mass, but over weeks to months did not improve muscle strength or maximum oxygen uptake. [20]
- Human studyIn a 2010 randomised, placebo-controlled trial of 96 recreational athletes, 8 weeks of growth hormone reduced fat mass and raised lean body mass mainly through extra body water. Sprint capacity rose by 3.9%, other performance measures did not change, and the sprint gain was gone 6 weeks after stopping. [21]
HGH 191AA side effects and risks
- FDA labelIn the label's 6-month placebo-controlled trial in adults with growth hormone deficiency, the most common adverse reactions on somatropin versus placebo were peripheral oedema (42% vs 8%), oedema (25% vs 0%), arthralgia (19% vs 15%), leg oedema (15% vs 4%), myalgia (15% vs 8%) and paraesthesia (11% vs 6%). [16]
- FDA labelThe label warns that fluid retention is frequent in adults, showing up as oedema, joint and muscle pain and nerve compression such as carpal tunnel syndrome. These effects are usually temporary and dose-dependent. [16]
- FDA labelSomatropin can reduce insulin sensitivity, particularly at higher doses, and the label advises regular glucose checks. In the adult trial, type 2 diabetes was reported in 5% on somatropin and 0% on placebo. [16]
- FDA labelOther label warnings include intracranial hypertension (usually within 8 weeks of starting), serious hypersensitivity reactions, hypothyroidism, reduced cortisol or unmasked hypoadrenalism in people at risk of pituitary hormone deficiency, pancreatitis, and monitoring of existing tumours for progression or recurrence. [16]
- FDA labelIn two placebo-controlled trials of 522 critically ill adults without growth hormone deficiency, mortality was 42% with somatropin at 5.3-8 mg a day versus 19% with placebo. The label contraindicates it in acute critical illness after heart or abdominal surgery, multiple trauma or acute respiratory failure. [16]
- Human studyIn healthy older adults, the 2007 systematic review found growth hormone users had significantly more soft-tissue oedema, joint pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and gynaecomastia, and were somewhat more likely to develop diabetes or impaired fasting glucose. [18]
Other things to know
- Sold outside the regulated pharmacy supply chain: no FDA review of a research-sold vial's actual content, purity, sterility or labelled dose.
- Approved-product labels (Omnitrope, Norditropin, Humatrope and others) carry warnings for acute critical illness, active malignancy, diabetic retinopathy, fluid retention, carpal tunnel syndrome, glucose intolerance and, in pediatric use, slipped capital femoral epiphysis - warnings written for a monitored, dosed, verified product, not for a self-directed research vial.
- No clinical trial has tested a research-channel HGH 191AA product, at any dose, for the muscle, recovery or anti-aging outcomes it is marketed for in healthy adults.
- Prohibited at all times in sport under WADA's Prohibited List, section S2, Peptide Hormones, Growth Factors, Related Substances and Mimetics.
