Glutathione: Injection Cost, Dosage, Side Effects and Legality
Glutathione injection cost in October 2026 ($32 to $275 a shot, $250 to $300 a drip), whether tablets and pills work, FDA-documented risks and legal status.
The short version
Glutathione is a tripeptide your own cells make as their main antioxidant. Oral glutathione is a lawful dietary supplement in the US. The injectable "glutathione push" or skin-whitening shot sold at clinics and online is different: no glutathione product has FDA drug approval, and FDA has documented anaphylaxis, liver injury and contamination with injected product. On 3 October 2026, the clinics I checked charged $32 to $275 a shot and $250 to $300 for an IV drip.
- A glutathione shot cost $32 to $275 and an IV drip $250 to $300 at the clinics I checked on 3 October 2026.
- Oral glutathione is a legal dietary supplement; injectable glutathione is not an FDA-approved drug in any form.
- FDA's own reviewers found insufficient evidence that glutathione works for any of the 24 uses it evaluated, including skin lightening.
- The harms FDA has documented (anaphylaxis, liver injury, endotoxin contamination) come mainly from injected or IV use, not the oral supplement.
- Dosing details, by route, are on the separate dosage page.
Glutathione at a glance
- What it is
- Endogenous tripeptide antioxidant (gamma-L-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine)
- Main use
- Naturally synthesized in nearly all human cells as the body's principal intracellular antioxidant. Sold as an oral dietary supplement, and marketed by IV/wellness clinics and online sellers as an injectable "glutathione push" or "skin whitening" infusion - a use with no FDA-approved product behind it.
- Also called
- GSH, L-Glutathione, Reduced Glutathione, Glutathione Injection, Glutathione Push
- Molecular formula
- C10H17N3O6S (307.33 g/mol) Structure
- Evidence
- Limited human data
- US status
- Dietary supplement
- Half-life
- About 14 minutes in plasma after an IV infusion (2 g/m2, 10 healthy volunteers) - consistent with the 10-15 minute range FDA's own reviewers cite. This describes how fast exogenous IV glutathione clears from blood, not how long any effect lasts.
- How it is taken
- Intramuscular injection
- Common protocol
- 200-1200 mg, 1-3 times weekly, intramuscular (glute or deltoid) (common practice, not trial-established) Dosing page
A glutathione injection cost $32 to $275 a shot, and an IV drip $250 to $300, at the US clinics I checked on 3 October 2026. No injectable glutathione is FDA-approved, and the evidence that it lightens skin is weak.
Glutathione is your cells’ main antioxidant, and that role is not in dispute. What is sold under its name is 2 very different things: a lawful oral supplement, and an injectable “whitening” or “push” product that has never been through FDA review.
Dosing, by route: oral, IV and injectable doses used in actual studies.
How much does a glutathione injection cost?
These are the clinics’ own published prices, as of 3 October 2026.
| Form and dose | Clinic | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shot, 200 to 600 mg | The Good Life IV, Phoenix | $32 to $50 | On its own, or with another service |
| Shot, 200 mg | One Wellness, Utah | $35 | 10 for $299, to self-inject at home after training |
| Shot, 500 mg | Hydrate IV Bar | $50 | Non-member price |
| Shot into muscle, 600 mg | SkinWorks Med, Torrance, California | $50 | |
| Shot into muscle | IV Glow Bar, Los Angeles | $55 | Dose not stated |
| 1,000 mg per session | Mega Wellness Clinic, Los Angeles area | $90 | Route not stated; 600 mg is $60 and 1,200 mg $110 |
| Single injection | Aesthetemed, Hallandale Beach, Florida | $275 | Dose not stated; $192 for members |
| IV drip with vitamin C | SkinWorks Med | $250 | 500 mL saline with glutathione and vitamin C |
| IV infusion | IV Glow Bar | $300 | Dose not stated |
| Add-on to another IV, 500 mg | Hydrate IV Bar | $50 | On top of the drip’s price |
Dose explains part of the spread. Most single shots were $32 to $55, and the one $275 shot doesn’t state its dose.
How much does a 1,000 mg glutathione injection cost?
Two clinics list a 1,000 mg dose. Mega Wellness Clinic charges $90 per session, or $428 for 5, and doesn’t state the route. The Good Life IV in Phoenix charges $70 to add 1,000 mg to an IV drip, on top of the drip’s own price. I found no trial testing repeated 1,000 mg injections for any benefit.
Does insurance cover glutathione injections?
Not that I found. No glutathione injection is FDA-approved, so there is no approved use to bill, and every clinic above lists a cash price. The Good Life IV says standard health insurance does not cover wellness IV therapy.
What is glutathione?
Glutathione is a tripeptide: 3 amino acids, glutamate, cysteine and glycine. Nearly every human cell makes it, and the liver supplies most of what circulates in the blood.
It helps enzymes such as the glutathione peroxidases and glutathione S-transferases do their work. These neutralise reactive oxygen species and help clear foreign chemicals, environmental toxins and some drugs. That biochemistry is well established.
The products sold under its name claim more. Oral capsules are sold for general antioxidant support. IV or injected “pushes” are sold at medical spas and online for skin lightening or “detox”.
For skin lightening, researchers propose that glutathione blocks the enzyme tyrosinase and shifts melanin production from darker eumelanin toward lighter pheomelanin (Aloraini 2026 - Aloraini K, Alangari A, Arif J et al. Glutathione for skin lightening via intravenous, oral, and topical routes: a critical narrative review of current evidence, safety, and the evidence-practice gap. J Med Life. 2026;19(7):511-523., in the references below). That is a proposed mechanism, not a shown clinical effect.
Small or uncontrolled human studies. Too little to settle the question either way. FDA's own 2022 evaluation found no or insufficient evidence of effectiveness for any of the 24 uses it reviewed, including skin lightening. Oral trials are small and show modest, mixed effects on pigmentation. A 2025 systematic review found only one placebo-controlled human trial of IV glutathione, and it was not statistically significant.

Glutathione benefits: what the research shows
The evidence differs sharply by route.
Oral
Oral glutathione is absorbed and raises the body’s own stores. Whether that treats anything is a separate question.
- Blood levels. In a 6-month randomised, placebo-controlled trial in 54 healthy adults, daily oral glutathione (250 or 1,000 mg) raised glutathione in whole blood, red cells, plasma and lymphocytes, more so at the higher dose (Richie 2015 - Richie JP Jr, Nichenametla S, Neidig W et al. Randomized controlled trial of oral glutathione supplementation on body stores of glutathione. Eur J Nutr. 2015;54(2):251-63., in the references below).
- Skin lightening, small Thai trial. 60 medical students took 500 mg/day for 4 weeks. Melanin fell significantly at 2 of 6 measured sites (Arjinpathana 2012 - Arjinpathana N, Asawanonda P. Glutathione as an oral whitening agent: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. J Dermatolog Treat. 2012;23(2):97-102., in the references below).
- Skin lightening, larger Indonesian trial. 83 adults took glutathione with vitamin C, alpha-lipoic acid and zinc for 12 weeks. Melanin fell, but not significantly more than on placebo (Sitohang 2021 - Sitohang IBS, Anwar AI, Jusuf NK et al. Evaluating Oral Glutathione Plus Ascorbic Acid, Alpha-lipoic Acid, and Zinc Aspartate as a Skin-lightening Agent: An Indonesian Multicenter, Randomized, Controlled Trial. J Clin Aesthet Dermatol. 2021;14(7):E53-E58., in the references below).
- Skin lightening, lower dose. In a 12-week trial in healthy women, 250 mg/day of reduced or oxidised glutathione made melanin readings trend lower than placebo. The reduced form also cut wrinkles at some sites (Weschawalit 2017 - Weschawalit S, Thongthip S, Phutrakool P et al. Glutathione and its antiaging and antimelanogenic effects. Clin Cosmet Investig Dermatol. 2017;10:147-153., in the references below).
- Insulin sensitivity. 20 obese men, 10 of them with type 2 diabetes, took 1,000 mg/day or placebo for 3 weeks. Whole-body insulin sensitivity improved, while oxidative stress markers did not change (Søndergård 2021 - Søndergård SD, Cintin I, Kuhlman AB et al. The effects of 3 weeks of oral glutathione supplementation on whole body insulin sensitivity in obese males with and without type 2 diabetes: a randomized trial. Appl Physiol Nutr Metab. 2021;46(9):1133-1142., in the references below).
- Fatty liver. In an open-label pilot, 34 patients with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease took 300 mg/day for 4 months. ALT and other markers fell significantly in those who responded (Honda 2017 - Honda Y, Kessoku T, Sumida Y et al. Efficacy of glutathione for the treatment of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease: an open-label, single-arm, multicenter, pilot study. BMC Gastroenterol. 2017;17(1):96., in the references below). This is a different use, and a controlled trial still needs to confirm it.
Do glutathione injections really work?
For skin lightening, the evidence is weak and mostly negative. It is weaker than the oral evidence, despite the higher price.
- A 2025 systematic review found only one placebo-controlled human trial of IV glutathione for skin lightening, and its result was not statistically significant. The review called IV glutathione contraindicated, citing its lack of efficacy and its side effects (Sarkar 2025 - Sarkar R, Yadav V, Yadav T et al. Glutathione as a skin-lightening agent and in melasma: a systematic review. Int J Dermatol. 2025;64(6):992-1004., in the references below).
- A South African review of the whole MEDLINE record found no published study of IV glutathione safety for skin lightening, or of long-term IV use for anything (Davids 2016 - Davids LM, Van Wyk JC, Khumalo NP. Intravenous glutathione for skin lightening: Inadequate safety data. S Afr Med J. 2016;106(8):782-6., in the references below).
- The most recent narrative review, covering papers to March 2026, called the evidence for IV skin lightening “too limited to justify routine use”. It flagged liver toxicity, allergic reactions and possible kidney and hormonal effects as open safety concerns (Aloraini 2026 - Aloraini K, Alangari A, Arif J et al. Glutathione for skin lightening via intravenous, oral, and topical routes: a critical narrative review of current evidence, safety, and the evidence-practice gap. J Med Life. 2026;19(7):511-523., in the references below).
Glutathione pills and tablets: does oral glutathione work?
Glutathione pills do raise the body’s stores, but slowly, and the clearest evidence comes from months of daily use. In the 6-month trial, 1,000 mg a day raised glutathione by 30 to 35% in red cells, plasma and immune cells (Richie 2015 - Richie JP Jr, Nichenametla S, Neidig W et al. Randomized controlled trial of oral glutathione supplementation on body stores of glutathione. Eur J Nutr. 2015;54(2):251-63., in the references below).
What is sold
Oral glutathione comes as capsules and tablets of plain (reduced) glutathione, sustained-release capsules, liposomal liquids held under the tongue, and a modified S-acetyl form. These are each seller’s own prices as of 3 October 2026. None of the links are affiliate links.
| Product | Form | Glutathione per serving | Label use | Price | Days per pack at label use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jarrow Glutathione Reduced | Capsule | 500 mg | 1 a day | $39.99 for 60 | 60 |
| Jarrow S-Acetyl L-Glutathione | Tablet, S-acetyl form | 100 mg | 1 a day | $39.99 for 60 | 60 |
| Thorne Glutathione-SR | Sustained-release capsule | 175 mg | 1, two to three times a day | $54 for 60 | 20 to 30 |
| Quicksilver Scientific Liposomal Glutathione | Liposomal liquid, held under the tongue | 100 mg per 2 pumps | 2 to 4 pumps | $45 for 50 mL | 25 to 50 |
Only the Jarrow capsule gives a single serving inside the 250 to 1,000 mg a day used in the oral benefit trials above. Thorne’s label use adds up to 350 to 525 mg. None of the trials on this page tested the S-acetyl form.
What the absorption studies show
- One large dose did not register. In 7 healthy volunteers, a single 3 g dose did not significantly raise plasma glutathione over 270 minutes. The authors put this down to enzymes in the gut and liver breaking it down (Witschi 1992 - Witschi A, Reddy S, Stofer B et al. The systemic availability of oral glutathione. Eur J Clin Pharmacol. 1992;43(6):667-9., in the references below).
- 4 weeks was not enough in one trial. 40 healthy adults took 500 mg twice a day for 4 weeks. Red-cell glutathione and oxidative stress markers did not change compared with placebo (Allen 2011 - Allen J, Bradley RD. Effects of oral glutathione supplementation on systemic oxidative stress biomarkers in human volunteers. J Altern Complement Med. 2011;17(9):827-33., in the references below).
- Months of daily use raised stores. In the 6-month trial, blood glutathione was up at 1, 3 and 6 months at both doses, and back to baseline a month after stopping (Richie 2015 - Richie JP Jr, Nichenametla S, Neidig W et al. Randomized controlled trial of oral glutathione supplementation on body stores of glutathione. Eur J Nutr. 2015;54(2):251-63., in the references below).
- Tablets. In a Korean trial published in 2026, 100 mg a day as tablets, or as a film that dissolves in the mouth, raised circulating glutathione over 4 weeks. Oxidative stress markers did not change. The trial had no placebo group, and 2 of its authors list company affiliations (Jung 2026 - Jung ES, Jang HY, Jung SJ et al. Formulation-dependent differences in systemic glutathione availability: Comparative pharmacokinetics of orally dissolving film and tablet formulations in healthy adults. Eur J Pharm Biopharm. 2026;226:115174., in the references below).
Liposomal, micellar and under-the-tongue forms
These forms are sold as better absorbed, and small studies support that. Every study below had company funding or company-affiliated authors, and none gave a product for longer than about a month.
- Liposomal. In a 1-month pilot with no comparison group, 12 healthy adults took 500 or 1,000 mg a day of liposomal glutathione. Levels peaked at week 2, up 40% in whole blood and 100% in immune cells. The company that supplied the product funded the study (Sinha 2018 - Sinha R, Sinha I, Calcagnotto A et al. Oral supplementation with liposomal glutathione elevates body stores of glutathione and markers of immune function. Eur J Clin Nutr. 2018;72(1):105-111., in the references below). In a single-dose study in 12 people, 6 per form, 1 g of a liposomal product reached a plasma peak about 6 times that of plain glutathione (Prasad 2026 - Prasad KN, Chandrashekar C, Karthik Y et al. Liposomal glutathione outperforms plain glutathione in uptake, cell regeneration and systemic availability: evidence from cellular and human models. Br J Nutr. 2026., in the references below).
- Micellar. In a crossover study of 14 adults, a 300 mg micellar dose raised whole-blood glutathione about 2.5 times as much as a standard 500 mg dose. 30 days at 600 mg a day caused no change in liver or kidney safety markers (Solnier 2026 - Solnier J, Du M, Zhang Y et al. A Targeted Metabolomic Assessment of Oral Glutathione Bioavailability and Safety in Humans: A Randomized Crossover Clinical Trial. Antioxidants (Basel). 2026;15(3)., in the references below).
- Under the tongue. In a 3-week crossover trial in 20 adults with metabolic syndrome, a sublingual form raised plasma glutathione more than swallowed glutathione did. The authors also rated it above N-acetylcysteine (NAC) (Schmitt 2015 - Schmitt B, Vicenzi M, Garrel C et al. Effects of N-acetylcysteine, oral glutathione (GSH) and a novel sublingual form of GSH on oxidative stress markers: A comparative crossover study. Redox Biol. 2015;6:198-205., in the references below).
Oral glutathione vs injections
- Blood levels. An IV infusion of 2 g/m2 took plasma glutathione from 17.5 to 823 µmol/L, about 47 times baseline, and it cleared with a half-life of about 14 minutes (Aebi 1991 - Aebi S, Assereto R, Lauterburg BH. High-dose intravenous glutathione in man. Pharmacokinetics and effects on cyst(e)ine in plasma and urine. Eur J Clin Invest. 1991;21(1):103-10., in the references below). Daily capsules gave far smaller rises, but they lasted through 6 months of use.
- Evidence of benefit. Oral glutathione has more placebo-controlled trials, with modest, mixed skin results and one positive insulin-sensitivity trial. The 2025 review found one placebo-controlled IV skin trial, covered above.
- Cost. Jarrow’s 500 mg capsule works out at 67 cents a day. A clinic shot cost $32 to $275 on the same date.
- Risk. The serious harms in the side effects section come mainly from injected and IV glutathione.
Glutathione dosage
No dose is FDA-approved for any route, because no glutathione drug exists.
- Oral: published trials used 100 mg to 1,000 mg a day for 3 weeks to 6 months, most of them 250 mg or more.
- IV: the one human study of how the body handles it used a single 2 g/m2 infusion. FDA’s 2019 compounding alert reports harms after IV doses of 1,400 mg and 2,400 mg made from contaminated powder.
- Injectable: a 2018 recall of specific whitening-kit brands, posted by FDA, lists vials of 600 mg to 3,000 mg. That is the range of a recalled product, not a recommended dose. The 600 mg and 1,500 mg vial pages work through the mixing maths.
Full detail by route: glutathione dosage.
Glutathione side effects
This section draws on FDA’s compounding-committee review, FDA enforcement and contamination alerts, and one published case report. There is no long-term human safety study at any dose or route. Almost all the harms below come from the IV and injectable route; oral trials mostly report mild effects.
Reported in studies
FDA’s 2022 compounding-committee presenter compiled reports from IV use, including:
- infusion-site reactions
- hair loss
- digestive upset
- sleep problems
- dizziness.
Separately, 7 patients given a contaminated compounded IV dose developed nausea, vomiting, lightheadedness, chills, body aches and sneezing. The same 2022 presentation says: “there are no studies on IV glutathione safety for chronic use.”
Rare but serious
- Anaphylaxis: 2 cases in FDA’s review. One patient reacted again when given it a second time.
- Liver toxicity: liver enzymes measured at 22 to 26 times normal.
- Contamination: bacterial endotoxin in compounded IV product led to hospital admissions, including one patient with a suspected bloodstream infection.
- Abroad: the Philippines’ FDA has warned against IV glutathione for skin lightening after adverse events including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis. Thai authorities banned the practice over anaphylaxis risk.
For any injection, site and technique matter whatever is in the syringe; see injection site reactions. Get emergency care for signs of a severe allergic reaction, fever with chills after an infusion, or any symptom that feels dangerous. The dosage page has the Poison Control number and fuller “when to stop” guidance.
Is glutathione legal?
US legal status - Dietary supplement
Oral glutathione is regulated as a dietary supplement: not FDA-approved, and makers are responsible for their own safety and labelling. No glutathione product of any form has ever had FDA drug approval. Injectable glutathione is not an approved product and is not covered by supplement status.
No glutathione product has ever had an FDA-approved New Drug Application. The oral capsules and liquids are sold as supplements, the same lightly regulated category as most vitamins.
The injectable version is neither. It can’t be a supplement, because supplements by definition aren’t injected, and it isn’t an approved drug. It sits in a regulatory gap that FDA has been evaluating and has not closed.
The compounding review
Glutathione was nominated for FDA’s 503A Bulks List, the list of substances a compounding pharmacy may legally use. FDA evaluated it for 24 proposed uses, including skin lightening, cystic fibrosis, reducing chemotherapy side effects and heavy-metal poisoning.
At the Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee meeting on 8 June 2022, FDA’s own presenter found “either no available information or insufficient evidence of effectiveness of glutathione with any of the proposed uses”. The presenter concluded that “a balancing of the criteria weighs against glutathione being added to the 503A Bulks List.” The committee voted 8 yes, 5 no, with 1 abstention, to recommend adding it anyway.
FDA has also repeatedly acted against injectable glutathione sold for skin whitening. In January 2018 a seller, Flawless Beauty, recalled 19 products under a court consent decree as unapproved new drugs presenting serious public health risks, and FDA posted the notice. They included Relumins Advanced Glutathione, Tatiomax, Saluta, Tationil, Reiki and TAD kits.

Common questions
Is glutathione FDA-approved?
No glutathione product, oral or injectable, has ever been approved by the FDA as a drug. Oral glutathione is lawfully sold as a dietary supplement, a much lower bar. Supplement makers are responsible for their own safety and labelling, and FDA doesn't review supplements for effectiveness before sale.
Is injectable glutathione legal?
There is no FDA-approved injectable glutathione. It reaches people through compounding pharmacies and online sellers, in a grey zone FDA hasn't resolved. In June 2022, FDA staff recommended against adding it to the 503A compounding list, and the advisory committee voted 8-5-1 to recommend it anyway. FDA hasn't adopted that, and in its May 2026 list update glutathione was still under evaluation.
Does glutathione injection whiten skin?
The evidence is thin and mostly negative. A 2025 systematic review found only one placebo-controlled trial of IV glutathione for skin lightening, and it was not statistically significant. Oral trials show modest, mixed effects. FDA's 2022 evaluation found no information or insufficient evidence that it works for skin lightening.
Is glutathione injection safe?
FDA's compounding evaluation documents anaphylaxis and liver toxicity (liver enzymes 22-26 times normal) with IV use, and says no studies exist on long-term IV safety. FDA has also warned that supplement-grade glutathione powder used to make sterile injectables contained bacterial endotoxin, and patients were hospitalised after IV doses.
What is the difference between oral, IV and injectable glutathione?
Oral glutathione is swallowed as a capsule or liquid; a randomised trial shows it raises blood levels over months of daily use. IV glutathione is infused into a vein at a clinic, usually for skin lightening or "detox", and a single dose clears from plasma in about 10-15 minutes. "Injectable" also loosely covers muscle or under-the-skin shots sold as home kits. No injected form has an FDA-approved product.
Why did FDA warn about glutathione?
For 2 reasons. In 2019 it issued a compounding alert after supplement-grade glutathione powder used in sterile injectables had too much bacterial endotoxin and patients were hospitalised. It has also acted against injectable "glutathione whitening kits" sold as unapproved new drugs, and in 2018 it posted a seller's recall of them.
What is the usual glutathione dose?
There is no FDA-approved dose for any route. Oral trials used 100 mg to 1,000 mg a day for 3 weeks to 6 months, most of them 250 mg or more. The one human IV study of how the body handles it used a single 2 g/m2 infusion. A 2018 recall of whitening kits, posted by FDA, lists vials of 600 mg to 3,000 mg, which is not a recommended dose. The dosage page has full detail.
What are the side effects of glutathione?
Oral trials mostly report mild effects. With injected and IV use, FDA has documented real harm: anaphylaxis, liver toxicity with enzymes 22-26 times normal, and endotoxin contamination that put patients in hospital. A case report describes systemic inflammatory response syndrome. FDA says no studies exist on long-term IV safety at any dose.
What are glutathione injections good for?
They are marketed mainly for skin lightening and "detox", but the evidence doesn't back those uses. FDA's 2022 review found no or insufficient evidence for any of the 24 uses it evaluated. A systematic review found only one placebo-controlled IV trial for skin lightening, and it was not statistically significant. No injectable glutathione is FDA-approved.
What is the downside of taking glutathione?
By mouth, trials mostly report mild digestive complaints, and raised blood levels fell back to baseline within a month of stopping, so the rise lasts only as long as it is taken. By injection or IV, FDA has documented anaphylaxis, liver injury and endotoxin-contaminated product that hospitalised patients, and no study has examined long-term IV safety. No route has FDA drug approval.
How many glutathione injections should I take?
No number is established. No glutathione injection is FDA-approved, and I found no study testing repeated injections for benefit or long-term safety. Clinic and vendor protocols describe injections into muscle 1-3 times a week, which is common practice, not a tested schedule. FDA has documented anaphylaxis and liver injury with injections, so this belongs with a clinician.
Can I inject glutathione daily?
I found no study testing daily glutathione injections for benefit or safety, and no glutathione injection is FDA-approved. The clinic protocols I reviewed describe injections into muscle 1 to 3 times a week, which is common practice, not trial-established.
How long does a glutathione drip last?
In the blood, not long. In the one human IV pharmacokinetic study, plasma glutathione rose sharply with the infusion and was cleared with a half-life of about 14 minutes. That measures how fast it clears, not how long any effect lasts, and no placebo-controlled study has shown a statistically significant skin-lightening effect from IV glutathione.
Is injectable glutathione worth it?
The price buys an unproven effect. A shot cost $32 to $275 and a drip $250 to $300 at the clinics I checked on 3 October 2026, and the only placebo-controlled IV trial in a recent systematic review did not show a significant benefit. FDA has also documented anaphylaxis, liver injury and contaminated product with injected use.
Is glutathione injection whitening permanent?
I found no study that followed people after they stopped glutathione injections. A systematic review published in 2025 described the skin-lightening effects of oral and topical glutathione as unsustainable. In a 6-month oral trial, raised blood glutathione returned to baseline within a month of stopping.
Do glutathione pills actually work?
Taken daily for months, they raise the body's glutathione. In a 6-month trial, 1,000 mg a day raised levels by 30 to 35% in red cells, plasma and immune cells. A single 3 g dose did not raise plasma levels in one study, and a 4-week trial of 1,000 mg a day found no change. Skin results across 3 small trials were modest and mixed.
What is the best way for my body to absorb glutathione?
An IV gives the highest blood level, but it clears with a half-life of about 14 minutes. By mouth, daily use for months raised the body's stores in a placebo-controlled trial. Liposomal, micellar and under-the-tongue forms gave bigger rises than plain glutathione in small studies of a month or less, each with company funding or company-affiliated authors.
Is it safe to take glutathione daily?
By mouth, the trials on this page gave it daily for 3 weeks to 6 months and mostly reported mild effects. In a 30-day study, 600 mg a day of a micellar form caused no change in liver or kidney blood tests. The serious harms FDA has documented came from injected and IV glutathione.
