Where glutathione is sold legally

US status: No glutathione product, oral or injectable, is FDA-approved as a drug; oral glutathione is sold lawfully as a supplement, and injectable glutathione reaches patients through compounding under FDA's Category 1 interim policy.

Prescription needed? Not for oral supplements. Clinic shots and drips go through the clinic, and telehealth home-injection sellers require an online evaluation.

Tablets and capsules instead of shots, and whether they are absorbed: oral glutathione.

Oral supplement (capsules or liposomal liquid)

Legal route

Sold as a dietary supplement, which FDA does not approve before sale. The one 6-month randomised trial used 250 or 1,000 mg a day by mouth.

Clinic or med-spa shot (intramuscular)

Legal route

No injectable glutathione is FDA-approved. It is in FDA's 503A Category 1, so FDA does not intend to act against compounders using it when its conditions are met; that is not approval. In 2019 FDA found excessive bacterial endotoxin in supplement-grade glutathione used to compound sterile injectables.

Telehealth prescription for home injection

Legal route

Compounded on prescription and not FDA-approved; AgelessRx says FDA has not reviewed or approved compounded products. Glutathione's Category 1 status is what lets a 503A pharmacy compound it under FDA's interim policy.

Research vials of glutathione (labelled not for human use)

Research-labelled glutathione comes as a freeze-dried vial, typically 1,500 mg, labelled not for human use. In 2019 FDA found supplement-grade glutathione powder used for sterile injectables had excessive bacterial endotoxin, and told compounders to use ingredients made to specifications suited to the route of administration. A research vial carries no such assurance, and FDA's December 2024 letter to Summit Research Peptides said research-use-only labels do not stop a product being a drug for human use.

A research vial is not the cosmetic, supplement or clinic product above. It is labelled not for human use, and the seller chooses how each batch is tested.

The checklist results come from my review of each vendor and cover the whole store. A vendor can publish COAs for some products and not others. The order is not a ranking.

What a research glutathione COA should show

A certificate of analysis (COA) is the lab report for one batch. For glutathione, check these:

  • Identity by mass spectrometry, with the expected and the measured mass side by side. For glutathione, expect about 307.33 Da (C10H17N3O6S); the sequence is 3 amino acids, ECG.
  • Purity by HPLC for this batch, shown as a chromatogram as well as a percentage.
  • A lot number that matches your vial or pack, the test date and the lab's name, so you can confirm the certificate on the lab's own site.

A purity figure does not cover sterility or bacterial endotoxins; a COA covers those only if it reports separate tests for them. Line by line: how to read a peptide COA.

Red flags when buying research glutathione

  • A research vial presented as a pharmacy, clinic or cosmetic product.
  • No certificate of analysis for the batch you will receive, or one without a lot number or a named lab.
  • Dosing instructions or treatment claims for people on the product page.
  • An FDA warning letter naming the seller. Search fda.gov before you pay.
  • No way to pay with buyer protection, such as a credit card.

Common questions

How much does a glutathione injection cost?

Clinic shots, as of 3 October 2026: $32 to $50 at The Good Life IV (200-600 mg), $35 at One Wellness (200 mg), $50 at Hydrate IV Bar (500 mg) and SkinWorks Med (600 mg), up to $275 at Aesthetemed. IV pushes and drips cost $150 to $300, and telehealth home-injection plans $99 to $179 a month.

How much does a vial of glutathione cost?

On prescription, NiceRx ships a 10 mL vial at 200 mg/mL (2,000 mg) for $129 the first month, then $179 a month, including the provider visit. One Wellness sells a 10-dose clinic vial (200 mg a dose) for $299 to self-inject after training. Research-labelled 1,500 mg vials start at $56.99 from the checked vendors and are labelled not for human use.

How much does a 5000 mg glutathione injection cost?

None of the clinics checked on 3 October 2026 listed a 5,000 mg dose. The highest was 2,000 mg: SkinWorks Med's IV push at $150 and The Good Life IV's 2,000 mg add-on at $85 on top of a drip. No dose is FDA-approved.

Is injectable glutathione worth it?

One systematic review, published in 2025, found a single placebo-controlled IV trial for skin lightening, and its result was not statistically significant. FDA's 2022 evaluation found no or insufficient evidence for any of 24 uses, and FDA has documented contaminated compounded IV glutathione that put patients in hospital.

What is the best way for my body to absorb glutathione?

By mouth, a 6-month randomised trial of 250 or 1,000 mg a day raised glutathione in blood, red cells, plasma and lymphocytes, and levels returned to baseline a month after stopping. By IV, plasma glutathione cleared with a half-life of about 14 minutes in the one pharmacokinetic study.

Where can I buy glutathione?

The legal routes I checked: Oral supplement (capsules or liposomal liquid); Clinic or med-spa shot (intramuscular); Clinic IV drip or push; Telehealth prescription for home injection. Clinic glutathione shots start at $32 at The Good Life IV, Phoenix (as of 3 October 2026). Research vendors also sell research vials (Next Level Pharm and BioEdge Research Labs), labelled not for human use.

Is glutathione for sale legally?

No glutathione product, oral or injectable, is FDA-approved as a drug; oral glutathione is sold lawfully as a supplement, and injectable glutathione reaches patients through compounding under FDA's Category 1 interim policy. This is general information, not legal advice.
