MGF Dosage: The Common Protocol and Why It Differs From PEG-MGF
MGF dosage: the protocol commonly used for the non-PEGylated form, why it is dosed differently from PEG-MGF, and what no study has established.
The short version
No human trial has established a dose for MGF. Research-channel sources describe common practice as roughly 100-400 mcg injected into or near the trained muscle immediately post-workout, 2-3 times a week, for 4-8 week cycles. The schedule is built around those sources' description of MGF clearing from the body within minutes, unlike the PEGylated version.
- The protocol commonly described is 100-400 mcg, into or near the trained muscle, immediately post-workout, 2-3 times a week, for 4-8 weeks.
- The timing exists because sources describe unmodified MGF as clearing within minutes. PEG-MGF is dosed on a twice-weekly schedule instead.
- No human or animal study this site could verify reports a quantified MGF dose. The figures above are research-channel common practice, not trial-established.
- Reconstitution and injection-volume arithmetic is separate from dosing. Use a calculator, not a guess.
No study, human or animal, has published a quantified dose for MGF. This page gives the protocol commonly described in research-channel sources, labelled as common practice rather than trial-established. It also explains why that protocol looks different from PEG-MGF’s dosing.

MGF dosage: the common protocol
The protocol most often described is 100-400 mcg, injected into or near the trained muscle, immediately after finishing a workout, 2-3 times a week, for a 4-8 week cycle.
The timing is deliberate. Sources describe unmodified MGF as clearing from the body within minutes. So the protocol is built around getting it into the target muscle while a local effect is still plausible by that description, rather than around a fixed daily schedule.
Common protocol
What is commonly used, not a dose established in trials. No regulator has set a dose for MGF. Sources differ, so the ranges below span them.
- Dose per administration
- 100-400 mcg
- How often
- Immediately post-workout, 2-3 times a week (training days only)
- Route
- Intramuscular injection
- Cycle length
- 4-8 weeks
- Timing
- Injected directly into or near the trained muscle within minutes of finishing a workout, because sources describe unmodified MGF as cleared within minutes.
Sources disagree on the exact shape of the protocol: one describes 200-400 mcg a few times a week (with a featured example of 300 mcg twice weekly), the other describes 100-200 mcg per injected muscle site plus a wider weekly-total figure of 400 mcg-1.2 mg when several sites are used in one session. The range above reflects the per-injection figures both give; the higher weekly-total figure is not folded in as a per-administration number. One source describes a break of 'several weeks' without a specific length, so breakWeeks is left unset rather than guessed.
Plan a cycle in the protocol builder or work out injection volume in the dosage calculator.
The common MGF dose is 100-400 mcg, Immediately post-workout, 2-3 times a week (training days only). From a 2 mg vial mixed with 2 mL of bacteriostatic water, 250 mcg is 25 units (0.25 mL) on a U-100 insulin syringe.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mL | 2 mg/mL | 20 mcg | 5 units | 12.5 units | 20 units |
| 2 mL | 1 mg/mL | 10 mcg | 10 units | 25 units | 40 units |

Units are on a standard U-100 insulin syringe (100 units = 1 mL), rounded to the nearest half unit - half-unit marks are on 0.3 mL syringes. Water volumes are examples: more water means more units per dose, not more doses per vial. For any other vial or dose, use the calculator below.

What is not established
- No human dose, frequency, route or duration has been tested in a trial. The protocol above is common practice compiled from research-channel sources, not a trial finding.
- No animal dose either. As with PEG-MGF, the papers found describe cell and tissue-culture delivery, not a quantified dose given to a whole animal.
- No published human pharmacokinetic study establishes the minutes-long clearance figure that the protocol’s timing is built around. It is vendor and community description, not a measured value.
Who should not use it
No trial population exists to draw an exclusion list from. MGF targets the same signalling pathway as IGF-1, and no completed human trial has tested it at any dose. So this site does not consider MGF appropriate for anyone outside a research setting.
Anyone already on prescribed hormone therapy, insulin or other glucose-lowering medication should raise any research chemical with the prescribing clinician rather than decide alone. The IGF-1 pathway MGF targets is directly relevant to insulin sensitivity.
MGF side effects and risks
There is no established side-effect profile, because no completed human trial has tested MGF. Full detail is on the main guide. Injecting directly into a trained muscle immediately post-workout, the timing the common protocol describes, also carries local injection-related risk that a routine subcutaneous injection does not.
When to seek care
Signs of a serious allergic reaction - facial or throat swelling, difficulty breathing, or a rapidly spreading rash - are a medical emergency. In the US, call 911. For a reaction that is not an emergency, or a possible exposure, Poison Control can be reached at 1-800-222-1222.

Common questions
What is the usual MGF dose?
Research-community sources describe roughly 100-400 mcg injected into or near the trained muscle, immediately after finishing a workout, 2-3 times a week, for a 4-8 week cycle. That is common practice, not trial-established dosing. See the protocol below for the sourcing.
Why is MGF injected right after a workout, into the muscle?
Sources describe unmodified MGF as cleared from the body within minutes. The timing and injection site in common practice are built around getting it into or near the muscle while, by that description, a local effect is still plausible.
Why is PEG-MGF dosed differently from MGF?
PEGylation is a chemical modification intended to slow clearance. Sources describe PEG-MGF as active for roughly 48-72 hours, versus minutes for unmodified MGF. That is why PEG-MGF's common protocol is dosed a few times a week rather than timed tightly to a single workout. See the PEG-MGF dosage page for that separate protocol.
Is there a verified animal-study dose for MGF?
Not one this page could locate. As with PEG-MGF, a literature search for a quantified injected dose of MGF in a whole animal returned no paper reporting one. The closest research describes cell-culture and tissue-slice delivery, not an in-vivo animal dose. Where a source has no figure, this page prints none.
