Buy hCG: Prescription Prices and Research Vials Compared

Checked, not rated · Updated 3 October 2026

You need a prescription to buy hCG legally in the US. With one, a 10,000-unit vial of generic hCG costs $306 at HealthWarehouse.com (as of 3 October 2026).

Research vendors also sell research-labelled hCG, which is not the approved medicine.

How to buy hCG legally

US status: Prescription-only injection (Novarel, Pregnyl and generic chorionic gonadotropin), approved for selected fertility and male hormone uses, not weight loss; a licensed biologic since 23 March 2020, so FDA says it cannot be compounded.

Prescription needed? Yes. FDA says approved hCG comes only as an injection and needs a prescription from a licensed medical professional.

Why compounded hCG is not a legal route: compounded hCG and the law.

Online pharmacy, with a prescription

Legal route

Legal with a valid prescription. HealthWarehouse requires a prescriber's diagnosis and does not accept weight loss as one.

Telehealth or men's-health clinic

Legal route

Legal when a licensed clinician prescribes and a licensed pharmacy dispenses. NovaGenix says its price depends on whether compounded or brand-name hCG is dispensed; FDA says licensed biologics such as hCG are not eligible for compounding.

Your own prescriber and a retail or fertility pharmacy

Legal route

The usual route for fertility and hypogonadism care. The fertility pharmacy I checked (Metro Drugs) quotes prices on request only, and Ferring's assistance page names programmes but prints no Novarel price.

No published price on the pages I checked.

Medical wholesaler (licensed practitioners only)

Legal route

Not a consumer route: Mountainside Medical requires a medical licence. Listed as a reference price for a branded vial.

Compounded hCG

Not a legal route

No legal pathway. hCG has been a licensed biological product since 23 March 2020, and FDA says biologics are not eligible for the 503A and 503B compounding exemptions.

No published price on the pages I checked.

Over-the-counter 'homeopathic' hCG drops, pellets and sprays

Not a legal route

Not the approved drug. FDA says every product claiming to contain 'homeopathic' hCG is illegally marketed.

No published price on the pages I checked.

Prices come from each seller's, pharmacy's or manufacturer's own page on the date shown, and they change often. "Legal status unclear" means the sources conflict or FDA has not ruled. How prescribing online works: telehealth peptide prescribing.

Research-labelled hCG (not the approved medicine)

A vial sold as 'hCG for research' is not the approved drug. Approved hCG is a licensed biologic dispensed on prescription, and FDA says biologics made outside an approved licence have no legal pathway. I found no FDA warning letter aimed at a research-labelled hCG vial. FDA's general rule, restated in its January 2026 letter to GenoGenix, is that a biologic needs an approved licence before it can be marketed.

Compared with the approved medicine, a research vial has not been reviewed by FDA, is labelled not for human use, and is tested only as the seller chooses.

The checklist results come from my review of each vendor and cover the whole store. A vendor can publish COAs for some products and not others.

What a research hCG COA should show

A certificate of analysis (COA) is the lab report for one batch. For hCG, check these:

  • Identity by mass spectrometry, with the expected and the measured mass side by side.
  • Purity by HPLC for this batch, shown as a chromatogram as well as a percentage.
  • A lot number that matches your vial or pack, the test date and the lab's name, so you can confirm the certificate on the lab's own site.

A purity figure does not cover sterility or bacterial endotoxins; a COA covers those only if it reports separate tests for them. Line by line: how to read a peptide COA.

Red flags when buying research hCG

  • A research vial presented as the approved medicine, or sold to you as a treatment.
  • No certificate of analysis for the batch you will receive, or one without a lot number or a named lab.
  • Dosing instructions or treatment claims for people on the product page.
  • An FDA warning letter naming the seller. Search fda.gov before you pay.
  • No way to pay with buyer protection, such as a credit card.

Common questions

Do you need a prescription to buy hCG?

Yes, for the approved drug. FDA says approved hCG comes only as an injection and needs a prescription from a licensed medical professional. Over-the-counter hCG drops, pellets and sprays are not the approved drug, and FDA says every 'homeopathic' hCG product is illegally marketed.

Can I purchase hCG online?

Yes, with a prescription. HealthWarehouse, a licensed online pharmacy, listed generic chorionic gonadotropin 10,000 units at $306 a vial on 3 October 2026, and telehealth clinics such as NovaGenix and menMD prescribe it. Compounded hCG is not a legal shortcut, because FDA says licensed biologics cannot be compounded.

What is the price of hCG?

As of 3 October 2026: $306 per 10,000-unit vial at HealthWarehouse, from $250.99 per 10 mL vial through menMD's partner pharmacies, from $199 a month all-in at NovaGenix, and about $90 a month as a TRT add-on at Full Potential HRT Clinic. Neither Ferring nor Organon prints a self-pay price.

Can men take hCG?

The label approves it in males for prepubertal cryptorchidism and selected cases of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. Taking it alongside testosterone therapy to protect testicular function is off-label, though TRT clinics prescribe it that way.

Is hCG as good as TRT?

The label does not compare them. hCG is approved for selected male hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, where it prompts the testes to make testosterone, so which one fits depends on the diagnosis and the prescriber.

Where can I buy hCG?

Legally, only with a prescription. The legal routes I checked: Online pharmacy, with a prescription; Telehealth or men's-health clinic; Your own prescriber and a retail or fertility pharmacy; Medical wholesaler (licensed practitioners only). A 10,000-unit vial of generic hCG costs $306 at HealthWarehouse.com (as of 3 October 2026). Research vendors also sell research-labelled hCG (Next Level Pharm), labelled not for human use; it is not the approved medicine.

Is hCG for sale legally?

Only with a prescription. FDA says approved hCG comes only as an injection and needs a prescription from a licensed medical professional. Compounded hCG: No legal pathway. hCG has been a licensed biological product since 23 March 2020, and FDA says biologics are not eligible for the 503A and 503B compounding exemptions. Over-the-counter 'homeopathic' hCG drops, pellets and sprays: Not the approved drug. FDA says every product claiming to contain 'homeopathic' hCG is illegally marketed. This is general information, not legal advice.
