Research vendors also sell research-labelled tirzepatide, which is not the approved medicine.

Legal route

Lilly sells Zepbound vials and the multi-dose KwikPen direct to cash-paying patients with a prescription. The 7.5-15 mg KwikPen is $449 when each refill comes within 45 days of the last delivery; otherwise the regular price applies. Lilly's Mounjaro pricing page prints no self-pay price.

With insurance or Medicare

Legal route

Lilly's savings cards bring Zepbound pens and Mounjaro to as little as $25 a fill with commercial insurance that covers them, or $499 a month if it doesn't; the cards expire on 31 December 2026 and exclude government plans. Eligible Medicare Part D patients pay no more than $50 a month for Zepbound through the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge.

Research-labelled tirzepatide (not the approved medicine)

A research-labelled tirzepatide vial is not Zepbound or Mounjaro, and vendors often sell it under a code name ('GLP-2(Tirz)', 'Tirzep GLP-2'). FDA says unapproved versions skip its review for safety, effectiveness and quality, and that it has warned companies selling tirzepatide falsely labelled 'for research purposes' or 'not for human consumption'. Its 24 August 2026 letters to Peptide Partners, Royal Peptides and NuScience Peptides named their tirzepatide as an unapproved new drug.

Compared with the approved medicine, a research vial has not been reviewed by FDA, is labelled not for human use, and is tested only as the seller chooses.

FDA warning letters cited on this page: Warning letter: Peptide Partners LLC (24 Aug 2026); Warning letter: Royal Peptides LLC (24 Aug 2026); Warning letter: NuScience Peptides LLC (24 Aug 2026).

The checklist results come from my review of each vendor and cover the whole store. A vendor can publish COAs for some products and not others. The order is not a ranking.

What a research tirzepatide COA should show

A certificate of analysis (COA) is the lab report for one batch. For tirzepatide, check these:

  • Identity by mass spectrometry, with the expected and the measured mass side by side. For tirzepatide, expect about 4,813 Da (C225H348N48O68).
  • Purity by HPLC for this batch, shown as a chromatogram as well as a percentage.
  • A lot number that matches your vial or pack, the test date and the lab's name, so you can confirm the certificate on the lab's own site.

A purity figure does not cover sterility or bacterial endotoxins; a COA covers those only if it reports separate tests for them. Line by line: how to read a peptide COA.

Red flags when buying research tirzepatide

  • A research vial presented as the approved medicine, or sold to you as a treatment.
  • No certificate of analysis for the batch you will receive, or one without a lot number or a named lab.
  • Dosing instructions or treatment claims for people on the product page.
  • An FDA warning letter naming the seller. Search fda.gov before you pay.
  • No way to pay with buyer protection, such as a credit card.

Common questions

What is the cheapest way to buy Zepbound without insurance?

Lilly's self-pay vials or KwikPen, with a prescription: $299 a month at 2.5 mg, $399 at 5 mg, then $449 for 7.5-15 mg KwikPen refills within 45 days (3 October 2026). TrumpRx lists the same prices; Costco's member prices are higher, from $499.22 a pen.

Can I buy tirzepatide online?

Yes, with a prescription, from a licensed pharmacy. Lilly sells Zepbound vials and KwikPens direct to self-pay patients, and TrumpRx and Costco list prices. Tirzepatide sold online 'for research' without a prescription is an unapproved product FDA warns against.

How much does tirzepatide cost per month?

Self-pay Zepbound costs $299 to $699 a month by dose, or $449 for 7.5-15 mg KwikPen refills within 45 days. With commercial insurance that covers it, Lilly's card can bring a fill to $25; TrumpRx lists Mounjaro at $499 a month. List prices are $499 to $1,086.37 per Zepbound fill and $1,112.16 per Mounjaro fill.

Where to buy tirzepatide without insurance?

From Lilly's self-pay programme, with TrumpRx coupons at a pharmacy, or from Costco Pharmacy at member prices, each with a prescription. Lilly's own self-pay prices were the lowest of the three on 3 October 2026.

Where can I buy tirzepatide?

Legally, only with a prescription. The legal routes I checked: Lilly self-pay (Zepbound vials and KwikPen); TrumpRx.gov pharmacy coupons; Costco Pharmacy member prices; With insurance or Medicare. Zepbound 2.5 mg costs $299 a month self-pay from Eli Lilly (as of 3 October 2026). Research vendors also sell research-labelled tirzepatide (Next Level Pharm and Spartan Peptides), labelled not for human use; it is not the approved medicine.

Is tirzepatide for sale legally?

Only with a prescription. Zepbound and Mounjaro are prescription medicines, and Lilly's self-pay offer says 'Prescription required.' This is general information, not legal advice.
