Buy SS-31: Prescription Routes and Research Vials Compared

Checked, not rated · Updated 3 October 2026

You need a prescription to buy SS-31 legally in the US. It is sold only as Forzinity, for Barth syndrome, through AnovoRx Specialty Pharmacy, and neither AnovoRx nor the maker publishes a price (as of 3 October 2026).

Research vendors also sell research-labelled SS-31, which is not the approved medicine.

How to buy SS-31 legally

US status: FDA-approved only as Forzinity (elamipretide), under accelerated approval on 19 September 2025, to improve muscle strength in Barth syndrome patients weighing at least 30 kg.

Prescription needed? Yes. The Forzinity enrolment form, which the provider faxes to AnovoRx Specialty Pharmacy, is the prescription.

Forzinity through AnovoRx Specialty Pharmacy

Legal route

For diagnosed Barth syndrome patients of at least 30 kg. AnovoRx is the exclusive US distributor, Forzinity is not stocked at retail pharmacies, and neither the company nor AnovoRx publishes a price.

No published price on the pages I checked.

Mito Assist patient support

Legal route

The manufacturer's free programme checks benefits, offers co-pay help to eligible commercially insured patients and assistance to the uninsured or underinsured. The company reported 85% of its first 33 patients fully covered (30 April 2026).

No published price on the pages I checked.

Expanded Access Program

Legal route

For Barth syndrome patients who don't meet the label, such as those under 30 kg, the treating provider can ask the company to enrol them; each request is reviewed case by case.

No published price on the pages I checked.

Compounded SS-31

Not a legal route

No legal route. In a December 2025 warning letter, FDA listed elamipretide (SS-31) acetate among substances ineligible for 503A compounding.

No published price on the pages I checked.

Prices come from each seller's, pharmacy's or manufacturer's own page on the date shown, and they change often. "Legal status unclear" means the sources conflict or FDA has not ruled. How prescribing online works: telehealth peptide prescribing.

Research-labelled SS-31 (not the approved medicine)

A research-labelled 'SS-31' vial differs from Forzinity in law and in manufacture. Forzinity is a sterile 80 mg/mL elamipretide hydrochloride solution made under an NDA, with a label dose and safety monitoring. FDA's 24 August 2026 warning letters to Peptide Partners, Peak Performance Peptides and Royal Peptides named their 'SS-31' as unapproved new drugs, whatever the research-only label says. FDA also lists elamipretide acetate as ineligible for 503A compounding, so a compounded version is not a lawful alternative either.

Compared with the approved medicine, a research vial has not been reviewed by FDA, is labelled not for human use, and is tested only as the seller chooses.

The checklist results come from my review of each vendor and cover the whole store. A vendor can publish COAs for some products and not others.

What a research SS-31 COA should show

A certificate of analysis (COA) is the lab report for one batch. For SS-31, check these:

  • Identity by mass spectrometry, with the expected and the measured mass side by side. For SS-31, expect about 639.8 Da (C32H49N9O5).
  • Purity by HPLC for this batch, shown as a chromatogram as well as a percentage.
  • A lot number that matches your vial or pack, the test date and the lab's name, so you can confirm the certificate on the lab's own site.

A purity figure does not cover sterility or bacterial endotoxins; a COA covers those only if it reports separate tests for them. Line by line: how to read a peptide COA.

Red flags when buying research SS-31

  • A research vial presented as the approved medicine, or sold to you as a treatment.
  • No certificate of analysis for the batch you will receive, or one without a lot number or a named lab.
  • Dosing instructions or treatment claims for people on the product page.
  • An FDA warning letter naming the seller. Search fda.gov before you pay.
  • No way to pay with buyer protection, such as a credit card.

Common questions

Where can I buy SS-31 peptide in the USA?

The only lawful US source is Forzinity, on prescription, dispensed only by AnovoRx Specialty Pharmacy after the provider faxes the enrolment form. It is approved only for Barth syndrome in patients weighing at least 30 kg. FDA named research-sold SS-31 as an unapproved new drug in three August 2026 warning letters.

How much does elamipretide cost?

Neither the manufacturer nor AnovoRx publishes a price. Mito Assist, the manufacturer programme, offers co-pay help for eligible commercially insured patients and assistance for the uninsured or underinsured.

Has elamipretide been approved by the FDA?

Yes, as Forzinity on 19 September 2025, under accelerated approval, to improve muscle strength in Barth syndrome patients weighing at least 30 kg. Continued approval may depend on a confirmatory trial.

What is another name for SS-31 peptide?

Elamipretide, sold as Forzinity. Earlier codes were MTP-131 and Bendavia. The developer, Stealth BioTherapeutics, now trades as Mighty Therapeutics.

Can SS-31 reverse aging?

No trial has tested that. Every randomised trial was in diagnosed patients, the approval covers Barth syndrome only, and the largest controlled trial, in primary mitochondrial myopathy, missed its primary endpoints.

Is SS-31 for sale legally?

Only with a prescription. The Forzinity enrolment form, which the provider faxes to AnovoRx Specialty Pharmacy, is the prescription. Compounded SS-31: No legal route. In a December 2025 warning letter, FDA listed elamipretide (SS-31) acetate among substances ineligible for 503A compounding. This is general information, not legal advice.
