Where NAD+ is sold legally

US status: No injectable or IV NAD+ is FDA-approved; it reaches patients through compounding pharmacies and IV clinics under FDA's Category 1 interim policy, and oral NR and NMN precursors are sold as supplements.

Prescription needed? Not for oral precursors. Injectable NAD+ needs a clinic visit or a prescription, and every telehealth seller checked requires a medical review.

Pills and capsules instead of injections, and what is in them: NAD+ pills and capsules.

Oral NAD+ precursors (NR, NMN)

Legal route

Sold as dietary supplements, which FDA does not approve before sale. FDA excluded NMN from the supplement definition in 2022, then reversed that in letters dated 29-30 September 2025.

Clinic IV drip

Legal route

NAD is in FDA's 503A Category 1, so FDA does not intend to act against compounders using it when its conditions are met; that is not approval. FDA's January 2026 warning letter to GenoGenix, a 503B outsourcing facility, reported three patients with low blood pressure, uncontrollable shaking and body aches, and an unopened vial from the same lot with excessive bacterial endotoxin. The same letter says NAD+ is not eligible for 503B outsourcing-facility compounding, because it is not on the 503B bulks list.

Research vials of NAD+ (labelled not for human use)

Research-labelled NAD+ is a freeze-dried vial labelled not for human use, from a seller that is not a pharmacy and with no prescriber involved. FDA's December 2024 letter to Summit Research Peptides said research-use-only labels do not stop a product being a drug for human use. Contamination is not only a research-vial problem: FDA's GenoGenix letter describes a compounded NAD+ lot that failed endotoxin testing inside the regulated compounding system.

A research vial is not the cosmetic, supplement or clinic product above. It is labelled not for human use, and the seller chooses how each batch is tested.

FDA warning letters cited on this page: FDA warning letter to GenoGenix LLC, 20 January 2026; FDA warning letter to Summit Research Peptides, 10 December 2024.

The checklist results come from my review of each vendor and cover the whole store. A vendor can publish COAs for some products and not others. The order is not a ranking.

What a research NAD+ COA should show

A certificate of analysis (COA) is the lab report for one batch. For NAD+, check these:

  • Identity by mass spectrometry, with the expected and the measured mass side by side. For NAD+, expect about 663.4 Da (C21H27N7O14P2).
  • Purity by HPLC for this batch, shown as a chromatogram as well as a percentage.
  • A lot number that matches your vial or pack, the test date and the lab's name, so you can confirm the certificate on the lab's own site.

A purity figure does not cover sterility or bacterial endotoxins; a COA covers those only if it reports separate tests for them. Line by line: how to read a peptide COA.

Red flags when buying research NAD+

  • A research vial presented as a pharmacy, clinic or cosmetic product.
  • No certificate of analysis for the batch you will receive, or one without a lot number or a named lab.
  • Dosing instructions or treatment claims for people on the product page.
  • An FDA warning letter naming the seller. Search fda.gov before you pay.
  • No way to pay with buyer protection, such as a credit card.

Common questions

How much does a single NAD injection cost in the US?

Shots, as of 3 October 2026: $50 to $200 at The Good Life IV (50-200 mg), $80 to $160 at Hydrate IV Bar (100-200 mg), $95 for 50 mg or $165 for 100 mg at SkinWorks Med, and $70 at IV Glow Bar. IV drips cost $400 (250 mg) to $900 (1,000 mg).

Where can I buy injectable NAD+?

At an IV clinic or med spa, or by telehealth prescription shipped from a compounding pharmacy; Precision Telemed uses Rush Pharmacy, a 503A pharmacy. No injectable NAD+ is FDA-approved, and research vials are labelled not for human use.

Can you buy NAD over the counter?

Oral precursors, yes: Tru Niagen Pro 1,000 mg NR ($116 for 30 servings), ProHealth NMN Pro 1000 ($64.95 for 30) and Tru Niagen 300 mg ($49 for 30 capsules), as of 3 October 2026. In a head-to-head trial, NR and NMN at 1,000 mg a day roughly doubled blood NAD+ over 14 days. Injectable NAD+ needs a prescription or a clinic visit.

Will insurance cover NAD injections?

Usually not. Precision Telemed says NAD+ for longevity and wellness is generally not covered, and The Good Life IV says standard health insurance does not cover wellness IV therapy, though HSA and FSA accounts may cover medically necessary IVs.

Are NAD injections worth the money?

One systematic review, published in 2026, found no outcome trials of IV or intramuscular NAD+ for anti-ageing or wellness, and the one comparative study found IV NAD+ caused more gut symptoms and chest pressure than IV nicotinamide riboside. Per milligram, a $450 clinic drip of 500 mg costs about six times a $139.99 telehealth vial of 1,000 mg.

Is NAD+ for sale legally?

No injectable or IV NAD+ is FDA-approved; it reaches patients through compounding pharmacies and IV clinics under FDA's Category 1 interim policy, and oral NR and NMN precursors are sold as supplements. This is general information, not legal advice.
