Buy Oxytocin: Prescription Prices and Research Vials Compared
Checked, not rated · Updated 3 October 2026
You need a prescription to buy oxytocin legally in the US. With one, a compounded oxytocin nasal spray or troche starts at $118 for 10 mL at Bayview Pharmacy (as of 3 October 2026).
Research vendors also sell research-labelled oxytocin, which is not the approved medicine.

How to buy oxytocin legally
US status: FDA-approved only as an injection (Pitocin and generic oxytocin) for medically indicated labour and postpartum use, given by IV in hospital; no oxytocin nasal spray is approved.
Prescription needed? Yes. Pitocin and generic oxytocin injection are Rx only, and compounded nasal oxytocin is dispensed only on a prescription after a clinician's review.
Compounding pharmacy, with a prescription
Legal routeBayview Pharmacy compounds a nasal spray or troche on a prescription and is licensed in eight states. FDA's 503B list designates oxytocin a component of FDA-approved drugs, the basis 503A compounders rely on.

Telehealth with a compounded nasal spray
Legal routeAn online physician review, then a compounded spray shipped from a pharmacy. MintRx says compounded medications are not FDA-approved; it shows its oxytocin price only after intake.

The approved injection
Legal routeA hospital obstetric medicine given by trained staff. It is not sold to consumers, and no retail cash price applies.
No published price on the pages I checked.
Prices come from each seller's, pharmacy's or manufacturer's own page on the date shown, and they change often. "Legal status unclear" means the sources conflict or FDA has not ruled. How prescribing online works: telehealth peptide prescribing.
Research-labelled oxytocin (not the approved medicine)
The approved oxytocin is a sterile injection (Pitocin, 10 USP units/mL) given in hospital under continuous observation, and Syntocinon nasal spray is discontinued. A research-labelled vial is neither the approved injection nor a compounded prescription, and nothing verifies its content or sterility. I found no FDA warning letter naming oxytocin, but FDA's 2026 peptide letters say research-use-only labels do not stop a product being a drug for human use.
Compared with the approved medicine, a research vial has not been reviewed by FDA, is labelled not for human use, and is tested only as the seller chooses.

The checklist results come from my review of each vendor and cover the whole store. A vendor can publish COAs for some products and not others. The order is not a ranking.

What a research oxytocin COA should show
A certificate of analysis (COA) is the lab report for one batch. For oxytocin, check these:
- Identity by mass spectrometry, with the expected and the measured mass side by side. For oxytocin, expect about 1,007.2 Da (C43H66N12O12S2); the sequence is 9 amino acids, CYIQNCPLG.
- Purity by HPLC for this batch, shown as a chromatogram as well as a percentage.
- A lot number that matches your vial or pack, the test date and the lab's name, so you can confirm the certificate on the lab's own site.
A purity figure does not cover sterility or bacterial endotoxins; a COA covers those only if it reports separate tests for them. Line by line: how to read a peptide COA.
Red flags when buying research oxytocin
- A research vial presented as the approved medicine, or sold to you as a treatment.
- No certificate of analysis for the batch you will receive, or one without a lot number or a named lab.
- Dosing instructions or treatment claims for people on the product page.
- An FDA warning letter naming the seller. Search fda.gov before you pay.
- No way to pay with buyer protection, such as a credit card.
Common questions
How do you get oxytocin prescribed?
For childbirth it is given by IV in hospital, the only approved use. Otherwise, a telehealth clinician can prescribe a compounded nasal spray filled by a partner pharmacy; Shameless Care says a licensed physician reviews each intake. Compounded sprays are not FDA-approved.
Is oxytocin spray legal to purchase?
Yes, on a prescription, as a compounded product: Bayview Pharmacy from $118 for 10 mL, and Shameless Care $199 for 15 mL with a physician review (3 October 2026). No oxytocin nasal spray is FDA-approved; Syntocinon nasal spray is discontinued.
Where can I buy oxytocin injections?
You can't buy the approved injection for home use. Pitocin and generic oxytocin injection are prescription hospital products, given by IV under continuous observation by trained staff.
What is oxytocin injection used for?
Starting or strengthening contractions when there is a medical reason, and after delivery to produce contractions and control bleeding. The label says it is not for elective induction.
Can you feel high from oxytocin?
Not that trials show. In a review of 38 randomised trials of short-term nasal oxytocin at 18-40 IU, people could not tell it from placebo, and side effects matched placebo.
Where can I buy oxytocin?
Legally, only with a prescription. The legal routes I checked: Compounding pharmacy, with a prescription; Telehealth with a compounded nasal spray; The approved injection. A compounded oxytocin nasal spray or troche starts at $118 for 10 mL at Bayview Pharmacy (as of 3 October 2026). Research vendors also sell research-labelled oxytocin (Next Level Pharm and BioEdge Research Labs), labelled not for human use; it is not the approved medicine.
Is oxytocin for sale legally?
Only with a prescription. Pitocin and generic oxytocin injection are Rx only, and compounded nasal oxytocin is dispensed only on a prescription after a clinician's review. This is general information, not legal advice.
